Making a career in engineering is worth considering not only for the financial rewards associated with it, but also, for its other various aspects that are appealing to the engineers. The only thing that is difficult, however, is a major responsibility that they have on their shoulders.
Engineering contains a large number of job opportunities and specialties. Some of the highest paying careers in the world are found in engineering. Engineering is widely considered as one of the most lucrative and in demand career choices, with multiple engineering disciplines and job types, as well as salaries that can exceed $100k per year once the engineer has some experience behind them.
Engineering has always been the most popular career choice among students. There are many engineering colleges in Mumbai from where you can pursue your degree. Some of the premier institutes in the city are – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay; Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Institute of Chemical Technology, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, etc. All the colleges follow their own admission procedure and offer undergraduate and post-graduate courses in engineering. Some of these colleges also accept admission based on the marks scored in JEE Main/Advanced, GATE and other engineering entrance exams.
While for all the colleges affiliated with Mumbai University, students who want to pursue 4year engineering after 12th std has to give a CET entrance test which is of 200marks. The admission on college at large depends upon the marks you get in CET.
Though it is a lucrative career choice, but there has been a downfall trend in the jobs market since the last 5years. Engineers who were getting packages of 15-20 lakhs on an average 10years ago are now getting packages of 4 to 5lakhs on an average. Global recession, rising costs of materials and reduction in profit margins, unfavorable policies by the government, decline in the value of money, rising unemployment in foreign countries for outsiders plus multinational engineering firms making huge losses has resulted in major reduction in jobs where each big firm is stripping of thousands of employees every year.
Hence, no doubt the field is still very promising but the competition is cut throat and you have to stand out and be extra ordinary to make it big moneywise in this field.
